The Department of Chemistry of Sarat Centenary College, Dhaniakhali, started functioning since the establishment of the degree course in 1978 and has grown into an Honours Department in 2005 under the affiliation of the University of Burdwan. Presently the intake capacity of the department is 29 in Honours. Though the number of sanctioned teaching posts for the Department is three, at present the department is managed by two full-time and one state-aided-college teacher who are fully devoted and committed to their duties and obligations. The Department ensures a good deal of faculty-student interaction and academic flexibility. The overall performance of our students in the university examinations is quite good. Some of the students get a chance to pursue their higher studies from the affiliating University or some other University of West Bengal or even succeed in getting very good placements for research at leading Institutes in India. Besides teaching the University stipulated curricula, the department organize remedial coaching classes, student seminar programme for improving academic presentation skills and carrier counselling programme. Very recently students from this department actively participated in the Educational Exhibition held in the college with some chemical experiments that are very closely related to our daily life.
